Dear Jen,

I just had a family member pass away and I came into some money. With so much going on I’m not sure what to do with it, or if I’m ready, but when the time comes what would your advice be?

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about your family member.  When a loved one passes it’s not easy and I would recommend you don’t make any radical or life-changing decisions right away. Eat well, get lots of sleep and, when the time is right for you, hire a trust-worthy professional. Handling an estate is a full time job, and it will be a relief to have someone you trust to walk with you through this challenging time to help protect your wealth. Hire a fiduciary – it’s their job to put your interests before theirs, so make this a priority. You might begin taking into consideration what you support and want to invest your money in. When you interview different advisors you can ask them what they invest in to find out if you are a match. Please let me know if I can assist further. Aloha.
